Simon McLean
Co-Host
Simon McLean is a former police officer who began his career in 1978, with postings in Campbeltown, the Isle of Bute, and Glasgow's Govan station. His frontline experience spans decades of Scottish policing, and he brings that hard-won knowledge to every episode of Crime Time Inc.
Simon is the bestselling author of The Ten Percent, a memoir covering his police career — a candid account of life on the front line of Scottish law enforcement. His work emphasises the human side of policing and the realities rarely seen by the public.
Beyond the podcast, Simon is a founder and committee member of LEAP Scotland (Law Enforcement Action Partnership), advocating for drug policy reform and decriminalisation. He also hosts Talking Walking Football with Simon McLean on Sunny Govan Community Radio (103.5FM).
Simon is a passionate walking football coach and Referee Liaison for Walking Football Scotland, and an active fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust — a cause close to his heart following the loss of his daughter Louise in 2011.
On Crime Time Inc, Simon co-hosts alongside former Depute Chief Constable Tom Wood, revisiting major crimes and events of the past and interviewing a variety of guests — all with the authenticity that only comes from those who were actually there.
