Yeardley Smith and Tom Wood Bring Ruxton Murders to Life on Podcast
A true crime series has debuted on the award-winning podcast Small Town Dicks, co-hosted by Emmy-winning actress Yeardley Smith. The show explores "the horrific murder and dismemberment of two women by Dr Buck Ruxton," drawing from former law enforcement officer Tom Wood's book Beyond Recognition: The Ruxton Murders.
The case centres on the 1935 disappearance of Isabella Ruxton and her maid Mary Rogerson in Scotland. Ruxton used medical knowledge to dismember his victims and disposed of remains across the Scottish Borders. The investigation pioneered forensic techniques still employed today, ultimately resulting in his execution.
Smith, recognised as the voice of Lisa Simpson since 1987, co-founded media company Paperclip Ltd in 2014 with Ben Cornwell to develop distinctive entertainment projects. The series runs for six episodes, releasing weekly on Fridays across podcast platforms.
Wood, now retired, has authored three crime books. His work utilises previously classified documents to detail criminal investigation and justice procedures from this landmark historical case.
